ThinkData Works

The RIWI technology enabled ThinkData Works to geo-locate specific countries and regions where people reported a greater incidence of COVID-19 and its symptoms.

The Challenge

As organizations in every sector struggled to capture accurate and insightful information into the COVID-19 pandemic, ThinkData Works, a leading data aggregation and distribution company, worked with their clients to provide access to decision-grade data used by researchers and analysts to understand the crisis better.

One of ThinkData’s clients, a major pharmaceutical organization, was looking to identify and geo-locate specific countries and regions where people reported a greater incidence of COVID-19 and its symptoms. The data gathered would be used to support the company in the roll-out of clinical trials to populations that exhibit a greater incidence of the virus. Thinkdata’s client was interested in collecting data in Brazil, China, Russia, the US, Australia, Canada, Germany, France, Italy, Poland, Spain, the UK, Ukraine, Japan, South Korea, and Taiwan.

The Solution

In May 2020, ThinkData partnered with RIWI, which has subject matter expertise in global pandemic surveillance, to create a custom multi-country realtime COVID healthcare sentiment data stream. This data would enable the international pharmaceutical company client to understand changing COVID-19 sentiment and healthcare access across key markets.

RIWI leveraged its patented Random Domain Intercept Technology to rapidly collect 100,000 responses from citizens across these 16 markets, beginning in April 2020, and continue to collect 20,000 citizen intercepts monthly after that in order to enable the client to view changes in sentiment over time. The total project represents diverse voices from over 200,000 people around the world.

The data was available to Thinkdata in realtime as it was collected and also transferred to Thinkdata's Namara platform for integration with other COVID related data streams from other sources to help provide a full picture of the pandemic to the client.

The Impact

Using this data, the pharmaceutical client gained access to a rich source of sentiment data that helped provide immediate insight into ground-level perceptions of the disease, leading to increased awareness of how the pandemic was impacting local communities and where support was needed.

Forward-looking data is the only way to accurately see how the pandemic is spreading. Working with RIWI to design a custom survey instrument that pulled in individual sentiment data gave us granular, up-to-date information that could immediately be applied to better understand and mitigate the impact of COVID-19.
