Citizens’ Perception Toward Civil Society: A Public Opinion Survey in Ethiopia

The environment for civil society in Ethiopia is among the most restrictive in the world. From April 16 to May 5, 2016, Freedom House, in partnership with RIWI Corp., conducted an online survey using RIWI’s Random Domain Intercept Technology (RDIT™) in order to discover Ethiopian citizens’ perception towards civil society, the restrictions placed on it by the 2009 Charities and Societies Proclamation (CSP), and the role of civil society organizations/non-governmental organizations. The survey reached over 2,700 Internet users in Ethiopia.
